New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals fought and clawed in the final game of a four game series against the North Shore Spirit, as they earned a 3-1 win thanks to timely hitting and the pitching effort of Demetrius Banks.

North Shore took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to Darren Blakely's RBI via the sacrifice fly. But it wouldn't take long for the Jackals top get that run back as Wilton Veras scored from third on Wally Rosa's passed ball in the second. Two innings later in the fourth, leadoff hitter Sandy Madera took the first pitch of the inning from Joey Siak and drilled it over the left field wall to give the Jackals their first lead of the game at 2-1.

In the seventh, the Jackals used a two-out, infield single by Joe Mihalics to score Wilton Veras, and extend the lead to 3-1. It would be all the Jackals needed.

Demetrius Banks earned his second win of the season with his third consecutive great start for the Jackals. Banks lasted seven innings, scattered eight hits, while allowing just the one earned run in the first. He walked one and struck out four.

Joey Siak was the loser despite pitching a solid ballgame. In six innings of work, Siak surrendered six hits, three runs, and two earned while walking none and fanning four.

Rusty Tucker nailed it down with a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.
