
Tornadoes Lose Rubber Game Against Newark, 6-1

The Bears broke a scoreless tie with a five-run seventh and won 6-1 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field on Wednesday. Alex Smith pitched seven shutout innings for Newark, while Nick Serino went 6.1 in the loss for the Tornadoes. Serino allowed two runs, both after he left the game.
Mikey Mehlich came on to get the save for Newark after Chris Rollins gave up a homerun to Chris Colabello the inning prior (the eighth).
The Bears batted around in the seventh, with two extra base hits accounting for three runs. Tim Raines, Jr. got a two-RBI triple on an 0-2 count, and Daryle Ward followed that up with a double.
In the eighth inning, each team hit a solo homer. Eric McGee launched one to left for the Bears, while Colabello hit his to a very similar spot in the bottom half.
Each team will have an off day on Thursday. The Tornadoes will host the Quebec Capitales for a wekend set, with the first pitch on Friday (and Saturday) scheduled for 7:05.
