WORCESTER, MA- The Tornadoes had their own Saturday Night Fever in effect as they beat the Skyhawks 4-2 on Wednesdays 70's Night in front of a sellout crowd of 3,232 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
The Tornadoes put up the first run of the game in the third as Jeff LaHair who doubled scored on a single by Elliott Shea. When the third baseman overthrew and it allowed Shea to advance to third. Josh Beauregard followed up with an RBI single.
They went up 4-0 in the sixth when Brian Rios and Austin Wasserman both walked and Wasserman scored on a throwing error by the catcher on a stolen base attempt and then Rios scored on an RBI single by Bergeron. Bobby Tewksbary hit a single up the middle through the pitchers legs but the final two Tornadoes would strike out to end the inning.
The Skyhawks put their first run on the board in the eighth when Candido Martinez had a one-out single and would later score on a sacrifice fly by Marcos Agramonte. They brought the game within two as Dick Daly Jr. had an RBI single that scored Bobby LeNoir who also reached on a single. They mounted a comeback but ended the game with Candido Martinez striking out with two runners on base to end the game.
Starting pitcher Alex Pena picked up the win and went eight innings giving up just three hits and one run (earned) as he fanned six Skyhawks.
Skyhawks Tim Tisch took the loss as he went 5.1 innings giving up three hits and four runs (all earned) and struck out three. Tonight's game featured the return of former Tornadoes pitcher Elvis Jimenez who came on in relief in the sixth and went 1.2 innings and gave up four hits and no runs while striking out five. Jamie Merchant came on to close the game and picked up the save.
Catch the final game of the series as the Tornadoes take on the Skyhawks at 7:05 P.M. Thursday night and they present Halloween in August. Dust off your costume and head on out to the park for a trick âor treatin' good time.
