North Shore Spirit News Release

Another night, another win for the first-place North Shore Spirit. The hometown nine extended their winning streak to four games Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Jackals.

Jared Trout picked up his third win of the season for the Spirit. Trout tossed six innings, allowing only one run while striking out five. Kevin Fitzgerald pitched the ninth for his league leading 20th save of the season.

The Jackals struck first in this contest with a second-inning run. Alex Fernandez laced a one-out double to right center to get things started and came around on a throwing error from Spirit backstop Alex Trezza.

Trezza would atone for the miscue and pull North Shore even in the fifth with his league-leading 15th homerun of the season, a solo-shot over the fence in right center.

The Spirit grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on the corners, Ricardo Cordova picked up an RBI with a groundout that plated Rob Fischer with the game-winning run.

The Spirit go for the three-game sweep Thursday night. North Shore will send Joey Siak (5-7) to mound; he'll be opposed by New Jersey lefthander Raul Valdes (6-2). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
