(Nashua, NH, Aug. 23, 2006) The Quebec Capitales defeated the Nashua Pride Wednesday night, 5-2, snapping Nashua's five-game winning streak. The Pride could manage just three singles off three Quebec pitchers before 1,109 at Historic Holman Stadium.

Nashua (20-14, 37-39) took the early lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out walk to Jayson Bass, a Bass steal and a run-scoring single by Larry Bethea.

Quebec (21-14, 37-41) took the lead to stay by scoring a pair of runs off Nashua starter and loser Jarrad Levergne (4-6) in the second inning. The Capitales rally featured two hits, two walks, a Levergne wild pitch and a Nashua throwing error by second baseman Tom Creighton which allowed Olivier Lepine of Quebec to score the second run of the inning.

The Capitales added another run in the third inning as Goefrey Tomlinson's triple scored Willie James who opened the inning with a single. Quebec's Dany Scalabrini stroked a run-scoring double in the fifth inning and the Capitales completed their scoring in the ninth when Nashua catcher Tommy Rojas threw the ball into left field attempting to nail Quebec's Nestor Smith who stole third and came home on Rojas' error.

Nashua's second run came in the fifth inning when an errant throw by Quebec rightfielder Alex Garcia to third base following a Creighton single allowed base runner Sean Dobson to score all the way from first.

Quebec starter Kevin Beavers (3-3) worked six strong innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run, walking three and striking out six. He was followed to the mound by T.J. Stanton who worked two scoreless innings and by closer Christian Mendoza who held the Pride without a run in the ninth and earned his 14th save of the season.

Nashua's Lavergne worked six innings, surrendering seven hits, four runs, three of them earned. He walked three and struck out three. Jason Paul and Lenny Carter finished up out of the Nashua bullpen.

As a result of the Nashua loss and New Jersey's setback at North Shore, the Pride and the Jackals remain in a virtual tie for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Can-Am League.

The Pride and the Capitales play the rubber game of the three-game series Thursday night at 7:05. Dan Reichert (RHP, 8-5, 4.23) will pitch for Nashua. Quebec will go with the recently-acquired Jorge Perez (RHP, 0-0, 0.00).

All state of New Hampshire employees and city of Nashua employees will receive a special rate of $4.00 for every ticket purchased to the Thursday, Aug. 24th game as the Pride push for the playoffs in the series finale versus Quebec. To round out the evening's festivities, super impersonator AIRWAVE DAVE is making a special appearance and will impersonate "The International Man of Mystery", Austin Powers.
