
Tornadoes get an early Christmas present with walk off win

WORCESTER, MA- Christmas came early tonight for the Tornadoes as they held Christmas in July at the park when pinch hitter Brian Rios stepped up with two outs in the ninth and two men on to hit a game winning two run RBI double to win 8-7 over the New Haven County Cutters on Tuesday night at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
The game began with the Tornadoes putting up the first run of the game as leadoff batter Josh Beauregard drew a walk and scored on a double by Ricardo Cordova.
In the second inning, Cutters Orlando Encarnacion hit a ball over Lucas Taylor's head to centerfield and had an RBI double that scored Jeremy Terni who reached base on a walk.
Tornadoes designated hitter Jabe Bergeron had a one out double to left field and scored on an RBI single by catcher Miles Page. Page then scored on an RBI triple by Jeff LaHair in the fourth inning. In the fifth, the Tornadoes went up 5-2 on a 2RBI single by Chris Colabello that scored Josh Beauregard, who reached base on a walk, and Ricardo Cordova who hit a ground rule double.
In the sixth, Jeremy Terni hit a 2RBI double down the left field line that scored Horace Lawrence and Tomari Story-Harden, who reached base on a double. Orlando Encarnacion hit a sacrifice fly that scored Terni and tied the game at 5-5. Austin Wasserman scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to put the Tornadoes up 6-5.
In the eighth, Encarnacion had his third RBI of the night as he hit a single that scored Terni and tied the game at 6-6. DJ Bailey followed up with an RBI double that scored Encarnacion. The Cutters stranded two runners on base as they went up 7-6.
Dave Byard came on and retired the side. The Tornadoes had two runs in the ninth when Ricardo Cordova hit a triple with two outs in the ninth inning and Colabello followed up with a walk. They both scored on the game-winning hit by Rios.
Tomorrow's game between the Tornadoes and Cutters has a special early start time of 12:05 P.M for Parks and Recs Day.
