New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ When the New Jersey Jackals were in desperate need of a victory, they called upon the services of Joel Bennett, and he delivered in typical Joel Bennett fashion. He baffled Les Capitales, as the Jackals put up just enough offense to win the game. The final score was 3-2.

With New Jersey's offensive struggles on Monday evening, it was no surprise that Manager Joe Calfapietra opted to manufacture a run in the first inning. Jason Tuttle led the inning with a five pitch walk. He then stole second and third, leading to a Jason Belcher RBI groundout.

In the second inning, Marc-Andre Major's struggles with control came to a head. He walked one, and hit a batter, and the Jackals ended up taking a 2-0 lead on a Guillermo Reyes RBI single.

One more run of cushion came Joel Bennett's way in the top of the sixth. With runners at second and third and no one out, Joe Mihalics lifted a fly ball deep enough into center field, allowing John Lindsey to tag and score from third.

While the Jackals were scoring runs here and there, Joel Bennett was dealing to Quebec. Les Capitales managed just two hits off of Bennett in his first six innings, with both being weak bloop singles.

But in the seventh, Quebec would finally do a little damage to Bennett. Eddie "The Experience" Lantigua doubled to lead off the inning, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch. After seven full innings, the Jackal lead was 3-1.

Quebec made it interesting in the ninth as Eddie Lantigua's sacrifice fly brought in Geoffrey Tomlinson, making it a one-run game, but Bennett settled down and ended the game in style.

Quebec's Marc-Andre Major suffered the loss, despite pitching well. He allowed four hits and three earned runs in seven innings pitched. He walked three and struck out three.

Joel Bennett was the winner of the game for the Jackals. He tossed a complete game, and allowed only two earned runs in the process. Bennett surrendered four hits, walked one, and struck out four. His perfect record improved to 4-0 in 2006.
