North Shore Spirit News Release

For the second straight night, the Spirit starting pitcher came through with a strong outing on the mound and the offense once again did their part to assist their ace as the Spirit defeated the Pride, 5-1 on Tuesday night at the New Fraser Field.

Vic Davilla was 2-2 with two runs scored and 3 RBIs in the contest, while Jeff Brooks went 3-4 with an RBI and B.J. Weed went 2-4 with a run from the leadoff spot.

Bryan Morse allowed just one run on six hits in 6.1 innings of work to pick up his seventh win of the season (7-2). Former Spirit starter Jarrad Lavergne suffered the loss for the Pride (2-4).

Both pitchers were cruising early in this contest and neither offense managed to push a run across the plate during early innings.

North Shore finally broke the deadlock with a fourth-inning score. Vic Davilla got things started with a leadoff triple and scored on a groundout from Chris Rowan to put the Spirit ahead, 1-0. The RBI was Rowan's 27th of the season.

Nashua got the run back in the sixth inning, however, with a solo shot over the left field wall from Glenn Murray.

The Spirit offense responded with a three-spot in the home half of the inning, though to once again take the lead. Ryan Bethel drew a walk to get things started and scored on a two-run home run from Davilla. Chris Rowan scored the third Spirit run on a Jeff Brooks RBI single.

The Spirit tacked on another run in the seventh inning with some small ball, and once again it was Weed making things happen. The fleet-footed centerfielder reached on a perfectly placed bunt single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Bethel, stole third, and scored on a sac fly to right field off the bat of Davilla. With three RBI in the game, Davilla padded his league-leading total to 43 on the season.

The Spirit will go for the sweep of the Pride in the series finale tomorrow night at the New Fraser Field. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
