
Tornadoes come close, fall to Pride 6-4

WORCESTER, MA- On Wednesday night in front of the 11th sellout crowd of the year, and the second consecutive sellout night, the Tornadoes lost to the Nashua Pride 6-4.
The Pride scored first when Tom Creighton had a single and scored on an RBI single by catcher Tommy Rojas. They followed up in the sixth with an RBI double by Sean Dobson that scored Andy Dillard who reached base on a walk. Tom Creighton tacked on two more runs with another RBI double that scored James Lofton and Dobson.
The Tornadoes were held hitless until the sixth inning when Ricardo Cordova broke up the no-hitter with a single to left field.
The Pride put another run on the board in the eighth with a double steal by Creighton and Dobson who were at first and third respectively.
The Tornadoes put their first run on the board in the bottom of the eighth when catcher Onix Mercado hit a triple and then scored on a wild pitch.
Pride first baseman Billy Becher had a solo homerun off of Mike Meagher in the ninth inning to put the Pride up 6-1.
Chris Colabello kept his home consecutive game on base streak alive with a double in the ninth that scored Josh Beauregard who had reached base on a single. Mercado came up and hit a 2RBI double. The game ended when Bob Tewksbary struck out.
Starting pitcher Junior Guerrero took the loss as he went 5 1/3 innings striking out nine and Nashua's Josh Stevens picked up the win as he pitched eight innings giving up only two hits and struck out 10.
The Tornadoes wrap up the series against the Pride tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field as Matt Weagle takes on Mark Hamilton. The first 1,000 fans will receive a 2005 Worcester Tornadoes Championship Replica Ring courtesy of Hanover Insurance and Community News.
