(Nashua, NH, Aug. 9, 2006) The Nashua Pride announced today that Red Sox great Jim Rice will be throwing out the first pitch and signing autographs on Red Sox / Yankees rivalry and Jimmy Fund night on Friday, August 11. The team will auction off a luxury suite, party deck and have a Red Sox tickets raffle with all proceeds to support the Jimmy Fund.

The Pride will face off versus the New Jersey Jackals at 7:05 pm and any fan wearing Red Sox or Yankees gear will receive $2.00 off a normal ticket price. Also, any fan wearing a Jim Rice jersey will get free admission to the game.

Rice led Major League Baseball in home runs in 1977, 1978 and 1983 and led the league in RBI in 1978 and 1983. The eight-time All-Star played his career with the Red Sox from 1974-1989 and was the league's MVP in 1978. On the Red Sox All-Time lists, he trails only Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski in HR, RBI, hits and total bases.

"It's going to be tremendous to see Jim here in Nashua," says Pride manager and Red Sox teammate (1976-1980), Butch Hobson. "He is a great friend and had an outstanding career."

Rice has served as a Roving Batting Coach (1992-94) and Hitting Instructor (1995-2000), and remains an Instructional Batting Coach (2001-present) with the Boston Red Sox organization. Since 2003, he's also been employed as a commentator for the New England Sports Network (NESN) where he contributes to the Red Sox pre-game and post-game shows.

The right-handed slugger was named an honorary chairman of The Jimmy Fund, the fundraising arm of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, in 1979. Rice's involvement with Major League Baseball's RBI program (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) resulted in the naming of a new youth baseball facility in Roxbury, Massachusetts in his honor in 1999.

The Nashua Pride, entering their first year of play in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, plays their home games at Historic Holman Stadium.
