Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Augusta, NJ -- The Worcester Tornadoes bounced back from a frustrating 6-5 defeat in the suspended game to pound out 14 runs on 15 hits and blowout the Sussex Skyhawks, 14-1, Wednesday night and even the series at one win apiece.

The Tornadoes suffered their fourth walkoff loss of the season when righty Ryan Mitchell walked Jabe Bergeron with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the 9th inning to force in the winning run and snap Worcester's four-game win streak.

However, Worcester, which has been resilient all season long, showed it in a big way in Game Two, shelling Sussex lefty starter Tim Tisch (0-6) for five runs in the 1st, two in the 2nd and three more in the 4th, tagging him with 10 runs (6 earned) in just 3.1 innings to go up 10-0. Meanwhile, Junior Guerrero (3-0) was cruising right along, tossing seven strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts. Worcester would tack on four more runs off the Skyhawks bullpen in the 7th to provide the final margin.

Chris Colabello and Patrick Perry had three hits each and Euvi Solano, Andrew Wishy and Keith Beauregard had two hits apiece. Perry and Wishy knocked in three runs each and Keith Beauregard plated two. Wishy extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest active streak in the league and the second-longest streak in the league this season. Wishy has driven in 13 runs in his last seven games.

Guerrero (3-0) picked up the victory and Tisch (0-6) took the loss. The Tornadoes scored first for the 16th straight game (Worcester is 12-4 in that span) and the offense scored at least four runs for the 25th time in 26 games. The Tornadoes will look to take the rubber game of their three-game set in Sussex against the Skyhawks on Thursday night when they send righty D.J. Mattox and his 22-consecutive inning scoreless streak to the mound against Sussex right Edisbel Benitez. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
