Brockton Rox News Release
Quebec City, Quebec (June 20, 2007) - Rox RHP Gary Galvez allowed just two runs in seven innings but the Rox offense provided almost no run support in a tightly-played 3-1 loss to the Quebec Capitales at Le Stade Muncipal in Quebec City. The Rox have scored just six runs in the last five games and have now lost six of their last seven contests and three in a row. DH Guye Senjem drove home the only run of the game with a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning; LF Jeremy Coronado and 1B Francisco Lebron each had two hits in the loss for the Rox. Brockton has dropped the first two games of the series to the Capitales.
The Capitales took the lead in the first inning with three straight two-out singles, including an LF Mike Galloway RBI single that failed to leave the infield. In the fourth, Galloway homered off Galvez to make it 2-0. The longball gave him four RBI in the series. Quebec RHP Jorge Perez pitched very well in his sixth start of the year. He dominated the Rox through seven innings before Brockton finally struck in the eighth. After an error and a fielders choice put CF Joe Hough on first, Coronado delivered a one-out single and Lebron followed with a hit of his own to load the bases. Perez came out and LHP Brian Dumesnil took over, but he walked Senjem with the bases loaded to force home the Rox first run in over 12 innings. Dumesnil fanned RF Tony Gonzalez and C Jason Radwan to strand the bases full and the tying run at second.
The Capitales scored a run in the eighth inning and while RHP T.J. Stanton faced Hough as the tying run in the ninth inning, he got Hough to ground out for the final out of the game in the victory for Quebec. The Rox have scored just six runs in the last five games.
In the series finale Thursday at Le Stade Municipal, RHP John Kelly (2-0, 1.54) looks to once again serve as the stopper for the Rox. Kelly beat the Nashua Pride 2-1 in a complete-game six-hitter on Saturday in the Rox last win. He faces off against Quebec RHP Karl Gelinas (2-2, 2.00 ERA) at 7:05 in Quebec.
