Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER, MA- The Tornadoes got all of the run support that they would need in the bottom of the seventh when Onix Mercado lead off the inning with a solo shot to left off of Brockton's starter Joey Baker.

After Miles Page doubled to left center and moved to third on a fielder's choice, Lucas Taylor drove in Page with a single to left, making the score 3-0. Leadoff man Tucker Frawley added a fourth run to the Tornado lead, singling up the middle and driving in Taylor.

Josh Beauregard showed why he was named Can-Am League Hitter of the week when he hit his third homerun of the season in the sixth inning. The bats were quiet for both teams until that point with Beauregard's homerun breaking the scoreless tie.

Junior Guerrero ran his record to 6-2 on the season, going seven strong innings, allowing only five hits and no runs while striking out six and walking only one. Guerrero's sixth win on the season now puts him atop the CanAm league in wins. Brockton's Joey Baker (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs and six hits over six innings of work.

Brockton threatened in the fifth inning when Zach Strong and Mike Torres laced singles into center however Guerrero continued with his strong pitching performance striking out two to end the threat.

The Tornadoes added some insurance in the bottom of the eighth when Chris Colabello lead off the inning with a single and moved up to second on Keith Beauregard's single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Colabello scored off the hot bat of Miles Page, increasing the lead to 5-0.

Brockton continues their weekend slump, as they have yet to win a game on either Saturday or Sunday this season (0-12).

The Tornadoes continue their series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. against Brockton. The finale will be Monday night at 7:05 p.m., before welcoming in the Nashua Pride for a four game series. Come out and celebrate the 4th of July with the Tornadoes as they face the Pride at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night.
