North Shore Spirit News Release

The North Shore Spirit saw their five-game winning streak come to end Saturday night as they dropped a 7-1 decision to the Quebec Capitales in front of 3,149 fans at the New Fraser Field.

Keith Dunn (2-6) allowed only one run over seven innings to pick up the win for Quebec. North Shore starter, Joey Siak (1-4), suffered the loss.

Quebec jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first. With one out, Willie James lined a single to right and scored one batter later on an RBI triple off the bat of Geoffrey Tomlinson.

Things would get worse for the Spirit in the fifth. After a leadoff double by James, Tomlinson picked up his 15th RBI of the season when his fly ball landed just out of the reach of a diving B.J Weed in left center. Tomlinson would score two batters later on a base hit from Benoit Emond. Siak escaped further damage thanks to the arm of Garrett Weir. The Spirit left fielder cut down two Capiltale base runners at home plate, keeping the score 3-0 after four and a half innings.

Nick Trainor would knock Siak out the game in the sixth with a long homerun to right center, his second of the year. Quebec would tack on two more runs thanks to a sacrifice fly by Eddie Lantigua and an RBI single by Alex Garcia.

The Spirit would break up Dunn's shutout bid in the seventh. Jeff Brooks drove home B.J Weed with a groundout, cutting the deficit to 6-1.

The Spirit and Les Capitales complete their three-game series Sunday afternoon. Jared Trout (1-0) will take the mound for North Shore. Shawn Ryan (0-1) gets the call for Quebec. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
