The Jackals hosted Fireworks Night, the most popular promotion of the night in front of a sell-out crowd at Yogi Berra Stadium.

After the doubleheader was finished between the New Jersey Jackals and the Sussex Skyhawks, the hometown team provided its own rendition of explosives as they tallied 23 runs on 22 hits in their two shutout victories, 13-0, and 10-0.

When heavy rainstorms and strong winds hit the area, the New Jersey Jackals and Sussex Skyhawks had be patient to continue its first meeting ever in the regular season. Last night's game was suspended after 2 1/3 innings.

In Game 1, the Jackals wasted little time in stockpiling runs en route to a 13-0 thumping. In Game 2, Isaac Pavlik (4-1) a pitched a four-hit shutout (7 innings) while striking out seven batters.

In the afternoon contest, Skyhawks pitcher Mike Howell, a day removed from the disabled list, was bludgeoned during the third as the Jackals drove-in five runs to extend the lead to 8-0.

John Lindsey (2-for-4, 2 RBI) capped the Jackals most complete game of the year with a towering moon-shot that disappeared over the Pepsi scoreboard in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 13-0.

In Game 2 Wilton Veras hooked a grand slam around the Grabowski Development pole in left field, leading to Skyhawks pitcher, Brian Ford's ejection over a fair-or-foul debate.

Veras' second blast of the season led to a thunderous ovation from the sold-out crowd and extended the Jackals lead to a touchdown, 7-0.

Jason Belcher started the the first game off with his own homer, a ball that landed on the grassy knoll in right, and Jason Tuttle (3 RBI) and Joe Mihalics (2 RBI) each collected three hits.

The Jackals used four different pitchers to throw a four-hit shutout that included 11 strikeouts, while Nikolic continued his assault with five strikeouts in two innings to extend his total to 24. Just three Skyhawk batters reached scoring position in the contest.

Nikolic (2-0) earned the victory, while Chris Zallie (3-2), who started the first three innings before the rainout, picked up the loss.

Before the rainout last night, the Jackals led 3-0 with RBI singles by Mike Nesbit and Joe Mihalics. In his first start as a Jackal, Raul Valdez pitched 3 innings of one-hit ball and struck out four.
