Moncton Wildcats News Release
Moncton, NB - Goaltender Josh Tordjman blocked all 24 shots he faced, including 12 dangerous ones, to lead the Moncton Wildcats to a 5 - 0 victory over the visiting Gatineau Olympiques before 5,619 at the Moncton Coliseum on Saturday. The victory was Tordjman's fourth in as many outings, since joining the Wildcats in a blockbuster trade from the Victoriaville Tigers. It marked his first shout-out with the Wildcats, his third of the season and eighth of his career in the QMJHL.
Moncton scored two unanswered goals in the first and battled through a scoreless second period and then added three more in the third. Philippe Dupuis led the Wildcats' summary with a pair of markers, with singles coming from Adam Pineault, Jerome Samson and Stephane Goulet. Defenseman Andrew MacDonald contributed three assists, while Goulet, Dupuis and Keith Yandle each added a pair and Pineault contributed one helper.
Special Teams were important in the contest, as Moncton scored four times on the powerplay and were perfect killing off nine Gatineau powerplay opportunities.
Moncton outshot Gatineau 44 - 24, including 13 - 9 in the opening period and 24 - 5 in the final. Gatineau held a 10 - 7 advantage in the middle stanza. The game was a battle between veteran goaltenders, as Tordjman evened his record at 17 - 17 and David Tremblay saw his record drop to 18 - 14.
Moncton improved their record to 29 - 10 - 0 - 2 (60 pts), while Gatineau's record dropped to 25 - 13 - 2 - 1 (53 pts). Moncton moves into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division and second overall in the QMJHL, one point behind the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, who have a record of 29 - 10 - 1 - 2 (61 pts). Gatineau remains in fourth position in the Western Division and sixth overall in the League.
Moncton improved their home record to 15 - 3 - 0 - 1 (31 pts), while Gatineau's road record dropped to 11 - 9 - 1 - 1 (24 pts). The game's three stars were #1 - Philippe Dupuis, #2 - Andrew MacDonald and #3 - Josh Tordjman.
Moncton returns to action on Sunday, January 8th, when they travel to Halifax to face the Mooseheads at the Halifax Metro Center. They will return to the Coliseum on Friday, January 13th, when they will host the St. John's Fog Devils.
