Wildcats Down Mooseheads 6 - 1 to Move Into First

Halifax, NS- Moncton Wildcats fell behind 1 - 0 early in the first period and then rattled off six consecutive goals to down the Halifax Mooseheads 6 - 1 before 8,686 at the Halifax Metro Center on Sunday. The victory propelled Moncton into sole possession of first place in the QMJHL, one point ahead of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Moncton has a record of 30 - 10 - 0 - 2 (62 pts) while Chicoutimi has a record of 29 - 11 - 1 - 2 (61 pts).

Wildcats had a balanced scoring attack, as six different players contributed, including Stephane Goulet (33rd), Brad Marchand (20th), Keith Yandle (16th,PP), Maxime Belanger (5th,PP), Christian Gaudet (10th) and Nathan Welton (6th,PP). Philippe Dupuis had three assists in the contest for the Wildcats, while Goulet added a pair and Yandle, Gaudet, Adam Pineault, Martins Karsums and Josh Hepditch each added one assist. Garrett Peters (11th) replied for the Mooseheads.

Moncton was 3 for 10 on the powerplay, while Halifax failed to connect in nine powerplay opportunities. Moncton led 3 - 1 after the first period and took a commanding 5 - 1 lead into the third period. Moncton held a 33 - 32 shot advantage, including 16 - 9 in the first period. Halifax outshot Moncton 11 - 7 in the second and 12 - 10 in the third period. Goaltender Josh Tordjman remained perfect as a Wildcat, as he allowed one goal on 32 shots to win his fifth consecutive contest since joining Moncton and improved his season record to 18 - 17.

Jeremy Duchesne allowed six goals on 33 shots to see his record fall to 18 - 15. The game's three stars were #1 - Keith Yandle, #2 - Stephane Goulet and #3 - Brad Marchand. Moncton has now outscored the opposition 35 - 8 in six contests, since Tordjman joined Moncton. Moncton improves their road record to 15 - 7 - 0 - 1 (31 pts). Pineault increased his point streak to eight games, as he has eight goals and five assists, during this stretch.

Moncton was missing forwards Chris Moorehouse and Matt Eagles, along with defenseman Luc Bourdon and Oskars Bartulis.

Moncton will return to the Coliseum on Friday, January 13th, when they will host the St. John's Fog Devils.
