Tordjman Brilliant, Rampage Shut Out Peoria 2-0

SAN ANTONIO (January 18, 2009) - Goaltender Josh Tordjman recorded his fourth shutout of the season by making 47 saves and San Antonio continued to show their resiliency defeating Peoria 2-0 Sunday at the AT&T Center. The Rampage have won 15 of their last 21 games.

After Friday's last second loss to the Rivermen, both teams came out fighting - literally. Frank Lessard, Chad Kolarik and Simon Ferguson all received fighting majors in the first period. But this game was a rematch of goaltenders Ben Bishop and Tordjman and it was a scoreless stalemate thru one period. Tordjman stopped all 16 Peoria shots and Bishop was perfect, 11 for 11.

The Rampage tallied in the second when Bishop, who stands at 6-7, couldn't cover the backside on the power play. Bishop stopped Jeff Hoggan's tip, but Kevin Porter took the rebound and pocketed his 2nd goal of the season 7:45 into the period.

Later in the frame, Kolarik picked up a turnover in the Peoria zone, turned and snapped a wrister high stick-side past Bishop for his 13th of the season and a 2-0 Rampage lead with 5:38 remaining in the period.

San Antonio, looking to break the game open, got a power play opportunity 5:31 into the third. Instead Peoria, tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals with 10, got a breakaway from Ryan Reeves but Tordjman won the battle stoning Reeves with his left blocker to preserve the 2-0 lead.

Two days after Bishop stopped 48 of 49 Rampage shots, it was Tordjman who saved all 47 Peoria shots. The win moves his record to 15-15-1 and the Rampage to 17-26-0-1. San Antonio was perfect on the penalty kill, 5 for 5, and netted one goal in five

Kolarik has goals in back-to-back games for the first time since he scored in three straight November 28th through December 12th.

San Antonio continues their homestand with games Monday and Wednesday. Monday, the Rampage host Toronto in a rematch of last year's first round playoff series. Then Wednesday, Lake Erie returns to the AT&T Center, site of a 6-2 New Year's Day drubbing by the Rampage. It's part of a five-game stretch in seven days as San Antonio goes on the road for Friday and Saturday matchups with Milwaukee and Iowa, respectively.
