Manchester Monarchs News Release
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have recalled goaltender Jonathan Bernier (emergency recall) from the Monarchs and assigned forward Teddy Purcell to Manchester, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
The Kings recalled Bernier after learning that goaltender Erik Ersberg sustained a lower body injury in the Kings game at Dallas on Saturday. Ersberg's injury is considered day-to-day.
Bernier, 20, has not appeared in a regular season game with the Kings this season. The 6-foot, 185-pounder from Laval, Quebec, has a record of 10-12-3, one shutout, a goals-against-average of 2.79 and a save-percentage of .897 in 25 games with the Monarchs this season.
The Kings selected Bernier in the first-round (11th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and he played in four games with the Kings during the 2007-08 season. Bernier, who won his NHL/Kings debut by backstopping the Kings to a victory vs. the Ducks in London, England, on Sept. 29, 2007, has a career record of 1-3-0, a goals-against-average of 4.03 and a save-percentage of .864 in his four career NHL/Kings appearances. In addition, Bernier won a gold medal as a member of Team Canada at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Purcell, 23, has split this season between the Kings and the Monarchs. In 17 games with the Kings this season, he has seven points (1-6=7) and two penalty minutes, while in 23 games with Manchester he has 19 points (9-10=19) and six penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-3, 202-pound native of St. John's, Newfoundland, was originally signed by the Kings as a free agent on April 27, 2007. In 27 career NHL games, all with the Kings, Purcell has 10 points (2-8=10) and two penalty minutes.
