Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms scored three goals in the third period to erase a 1-0 second intermission deficit and take a 3-1 win over the Albany River Rats on Sunday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. The win pulled Philadelphia into a tie with the Binghamton Senators for fourth place in the East Division.
Albany drew first blood 9:29 into the contest. Goaltender Scott Munroe stopped Jakub Petruzalek's original shot from the blue line with his right pad, but the rebound bounced out to Michael Ryan, who slapped the puck into the net for his 20th goal of the year to give the River Rats a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.
That lead held through the second period and nearly six minutes into the third before the Phantoms were able to get on the board and tie the game. Danny Briere, who was finishing up a three-game conditioning assignment with the Phantoms, gained control of the puck behind the Albany net and worked it out front to Nodl. He fired it past Peters for the equalizer at 5:56.
The Phantoms then jumped ahead with 7:23 to play, with Jonathan Matsumoto serving as the hero for the second straight game. Claude Giroux, back after a three-week call-up to the Flyers, threw a beautiful no-look pass to the right of the net, and Matsumoto ripped a shot high to the short side to make it a 2-1 game. Jared Ross added an empty-net insurance marker in the final minute of play to seal the win.
Munroe earned the first star with another outstanding outing, stopping 32 of 33 shots thrown his way for his 18th win of the year. Peters made 14 saves on the 16 of Philadelphia's 17 shots that he faced.
