August 30, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Nashville scored all 11 runs in the last four innings as the Albuquerque Isotopes dropped the opener of a four-game series with Nashville 11-4 in front of 9,598 on Friday night at Isotopes Park.
Albuquerque maintains its slim one game lead over Colorado Springs with three games left as the Sky Sox fell to Omaha 6-3.
The Isotopes and starter Sean Bergman entered the sixth with a 3-0 lead before the Sounds touched Albuquerque pitching for five runs on four hits and an error for a 5-3 lead. Bergman allowed a solo homer to Dave Doster with one out before giving up two more hits to end his night. Both runners would come around to score on reliever Oswaldo Mairena (6-4) as the Sounds took the lead. Jorge Toca then added to Nashville's lead with a two-out bases clearing triple in the seventh off Marty McLeary.
The âTopes took the early lead in the third on Gerald Williams's 14th homer of the season. Paul Hoover drove in Albuquerque's second run in the fourth on a single plating Chris Donnels. Derek Wathan made the score 3-0 in the fifth with a single scoring Williams.
With Colorado Springs' loss, Albuquerque's magic number is down to two. Any combination of two Isotope wins or Sky Sox losses will give the Isotopes (73-68) the Central Division title. Game two of the series is tomorrow afternoon with first pitch at 12:05. Jason Grilli will make the start for Albuquerque.
