Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

FRESNO -- Angel Castro pitched seven scoreless innings and the Albuquerque Isotopes snapped their six-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park.

The Isotopes (64-54) went 2-6 on their road trip to California, winning the first and last games of the trip. They remain four games behind Oklahoma City, which won its 12th consecutive game, in the PCL's American Southern division.

Castro, who had allowed 13 runs in his last 10 1/3 innings, was masterful on Tuesday night. Castro (7-3) allowed five hits and no walks, while striking out four.

John Baker ended the Topes' seven-game homerless streak with a solo home run in the third inning for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Albuquerque loaded the bases with nobody out on singles by Elian Herrera and Chili Buss sandwiched around a Tony Gwynn Jr. walk. Brian Barden made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to right field. Justin Sellers then hit a single off Fresno starting pitcher Justin Fitzgerald (2-4) that scored one run. Another run scored when third baseman Chris Dominguez's throw to first base was wild.

Anthony Ortega pitched a scoreless eighth and departed with two outs in the ninth and a runner at second base. Peter Moylan allowed a double by Juan Perez in the ninth inning, off the glove of third baseman Ian Stewart, that scored Fresno's only run of the game. Moylan got the final out to end it.

The Isotopes will enjoy their final off-day of the season on Wednesday and fly back to Albuquerque. They open a four-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners affiliate) on Thursday. Matt Palmer will start for the Topes. First pitch is at 7:05 Mountain Time and all the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
