SACRAMENTO - A two-run double in the fourth was the difference in Tuesday night's series finale as the Round Rock Express (62-56) dropped its second straight one-run game to the Sacramento River Cats (64-54) at Raley Field 2-1.

Express starter Evan Meek was on point, scattering six hits and two runs across 7.2 innings of work, but fell victim to a lack of run support. The E-Train managed just one run of offense for the fifth time over the eight-game West Coast swing. Although the Express held the lead early, one swing of the bat was enough to put the River Cats back in the driver's seat.

Round Rock was first to the board, backing Meek's outing with a run in the top of the third. After right fielder Jared Hoying led off with a double into the left-center gap, catcher Eli Whiteside singled through the right side to put runners on the corners with no outs. Two batters later, center fielder Jim Adduci cashed in on the scoring opportunity with a sacrifice fly to left, putting the E-Train up 1-0.

The lead would be short-lived as the River Cats broke through off Meek in the bottom of the fourth. After allowing singles to the first two batters, Meek induced a force out that left runners on the corners with one out. Right fielder Michael Taylor stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run double, splitting the right-center gap to push Sacramento in front 2-1. Meek eventually worked his way out of the jam, limiting the damage and keeping the deficit at just one run.

The Express would fail to string together more than one hit per frame over the course of the final six innings after scoring in the third. The best scoring opportunity Round Rock would receive throughout the rest of the game would be in the fifth when left fielder Mike Bianucci was stranded at third, just 90 feet from tying the game at two apiece, following a line out by shortstop Leury Garcia.

Sacramento's bullpen limited the Express to just one hit over the final two innings as River Cats relievers combined to hold Round Rock scoreless over 9.0 frames throughout the four-game series.

Meek (5-7) went on to suffer the loss, his third straight, while Sacramento starter Arnold Leon (3-2) picked up the victory after allowing just one run over 7.0 innings.

Following an off day on Wednesday, the Express opens an eight-game homestand with a 7:05 p.m. start against the Salt Lake Bees on Thursday night. It will be the return of the Original Thirsty Thursday, presented by Firetrol Protection Systems featuring $1.00 sodas and discounted draft beer at Dell Diamond.
