Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' captain, Tom Kostopoulos, is on the verge of hockey history.
Kostopoulos is one game away from playing in his 600th career AHL game, which would make him the fourth player ever to reach 600 NHL games and 600 AHL games.
Previous players to reach the 600/600 milestone are Dave Creighton, Jim Morrison, and Shawn Thornton. Creighton accomplished the feat in 1967, Morrison in 1971, and Thornton did it last year in 2015.
Kostopoulos can join the 600/600 Club in the Penguins' next home game, Sunday, Mar. 6, against the Hershey Bears.
Through 599 AHL contests, the 37-year-old Kostopoulos has 177 goals, 268 assists, 445 total points, and 885 penalty minutes. Of those 599 games, 535 have been played with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Kostopoulos has 157 points (61G-96A) in 630 NHL games played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Montréal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames, and New Jersey Devils.
The Mississauga, Ont. native was a part of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's inaugural season in 1999-2000, and has spent five seasons wearing the captain's "C" for the Penguins.
Individual tickets for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton games can be purchased at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza box office, through all Ticketmaster outlets, or by contacting the Penguins directly at (570) 208-7367.
