San Jose Barracuda News Release
San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (24-19-6-3, 57pts) presented by Barracuda Networks fell to the visiting Bakersfield Condors (25-21-3-2, 55pts) by the score of 3-2 in front of 4,818 fans at SAP Center on Saturday afternoon.
Nikolay Goldobin extended his point streak to three games (4-2-6) with two goals while Aaron Dell made 20 saves in net in the loss. Three different goal scorers found the back of the net for Bakersfield and Eetu Laurikainen made 29 saves in net for the win as Bakersfield moved within two points of the Barracuda for the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division. The two teams meet again on Sunday at 3pm at SAP Center to close out the two game weekend set.
The Condors controlled the first 19 minutes of the first period to grab a 2-0 lead. Griffin Reinhart (2nd) scored on a back door play at 8:44 to give Bakersfield a 1-0 advantage. Condors Captain Ryan Hamilton (16th) scored from the right side that beat goaltender Aaron Dell short side at 12:05. But the Barracuda got one back with 16 seconds left in the opening period as Nikolay Goldobin (14th) fired home a centering feed by Jeremy Langlois past netminder Eetu Laurikainen to cut the deficit to 2-1. Bakersfield went 0-3 on the power play and held a 11-7 advantage through 20 minutes of play.
The Barracuda played much better in the second period but it was the Condors to score the only goal. After Aaron dell made a save on an odd man rush, the puck came free from under his pads and was centered from behind the net to Matthew Ford (22nd) alone in front at 5:17 to give Bakersfield a 3-1 lead. San Jose outshot Bakersfield 15-7 in the middle frame but trailed by two goals headed into the second intermission.
Nikolay Goldobin (15th) got the Barracuda within a goal after he fired home a Jeremy Langlois rebound at 13:56 for the only score of the third period. Shots were 9-5 Barracuda in the third period but San Jose was unable to tie the score despite a late push.
