Springfield Falcons News Release

Utica, NY - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Utica Comets by a score of 2-1 on Saturday Night at the Utica Memorial Auditorium

Utica struck first with a power play tally from Chris Higgins 6:55 into the first period. His fourth of the year was a deflection from a Taylor Fedun slap shot. Alex Friesen also assisted on the goal for the only score of the period. Niklas Treutle was tested several times during the frame and turned aside 11 shots during the frame. Richard Bachman made nine saves on the period to give the Comets a 1-0 lead through the first.

The Comets extended their lead with another power play goal 7:46 into the second period. Ronalds Kenins fired a wrist shot past Treutle for his third of the season with assists from Fedun and Friesen. The Falcons got on the scoreboard with a one-timer from Michael Bunting for his seventh of the year at 13:12. Laurent Dauphin connected a pass through the slot for a back-door goal to bring the score to a 2-1 Comets lead. The period concluded with Utica still holding their one-goal lead.

The teams trading scoring chances in an up-tempo third period with Treutle and Bachman turning aside chance after chance. The game remained 2-1 in the final minutes which forced Springfield to pull their netminder in favor of the extra attacker. Despite several scoring chances, one of which was waved off due to a high stick, the Falcons could not score and lost by a 2-1 score. Treutle made 30 saves to fall to 9-12-5 on the season. Bachman improved to a 12-9-4 record with 21 saves.

The Falcons return home to conclude the weekend with a 5:00 p.m. faceoff tomorrow night against the Syracuse Crunch. Following the game is the free Friendly's post-game skate.
