Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

HERSHEY, Pa. - Both of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' main additions at the NHL trade deadline left their mark on a 6-2 loss to the Hershey Bears at Giant Center on Saturday night.

Dustin Jeffrey and Matthias Plachta, both acquired by the Penguins organization on Monday, Feb. 29, scored their first goals of the season since donning Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's uniform.

Nathan Walker got the Bears on the board first, scoring on a breakaway 2:10 into the second period.

Hershey made good on its first power play of the contest with Christian Djoos set up on the backdoor, making it 2-0 at 6:11 of the middle frame.

The Bears made it 3-0 when Carter Camper buried a cross-crease feed from Aaron Ness at 15:37 of the second. Camper's goal was his third point of the game after he recorded assists on both of the Bears' previous tallies.

Continuing his strong play since returning to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jeffrey wired a shot through Dan Ellis for the Penguins' first goal of the game, bringing the score to 3-1 with 1:51 left in the second period.

Dustin Gazley potted another power play goal for Hershey, putting the home team back up by three at 5:15 of the third.

The Penguins cut that lead back down to two when Plachta tipped in his first goal in his second game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, making it 4-2 with 10:18 still remaining in the game.

Comeback hopes for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton were put on hold when Zach Sill answered 58 seconds after Plachta's goal, earning a 5-2 lead for Hershey.

Walker scored his second goal of the game with another Hershey man advantage marker with 34 seconds left in the game.

Though eight goals were scored between the two rivals, it was a low-shooting affair. Final shots on goal were merely 23-14 in favor of Hershey.

Tristan Jarry, manning the crease for the second consecutive night for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, ended up with 17 saves. Hershey netminder Ellis completed the contest with 12 stops.

The Penguins and Bears will go at it again tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, Mar. 6. The second game of the back-to-back, home-and-home weekend for Hershey and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is scheduled for a 4:05 p.m. puck drop.
