Tom Hackimer and Lachlan Wells join Kernels from Elizabethton

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Tom Hackimer and LHP Lachlan Wells will join the Kernels from Elizabethton. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

The Twins selected Hackimer in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of St. John's University. In 28 relief appearances, he posted a 7-3 record, 1.17 ERA and eight saves, allowing 24 hits and seven runs (all earned). In 53.2 IP, he struck out 71 and walked 19.

The Twins signed Wells as a non-drafted free agent on August 11, 2014. He is a native of Belmont South, Australia and appeared in 10 games (nine starts) for the GCL Twins last season, posting a 5-2 record and 2.09 ERA. In 47.1 IP, he allowed 35 hits and 12 runs (11 earned) with 49 strikeouts and 11 walks.

Hackimer and Wells are active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game vs. Beloit. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with six players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.

The Kernels begin the second half of the 2016 MWL season tonight with a four game series against the Beloit Snappers, the MWL Affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM.
