Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps will host Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith at Parkview Field on Monday, June 27 (7:05 p.m.) when the team takes on the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds).
Smith, who's from Fort Wayne and attended Notre Dame, will sign autographs for fans before the game from 5:40-6:40 and then throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome a local star like Jaylon to Parkview Field before he's off to the NFL," said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. "We admire Jaylon not only for his outstanding talent on the field but also for his character off the gridiron. He's a role model for young kids who our community is lucky to have."
Smith will attend the game with a group of 50 students, represented from different community organizations that he will be mentoring for the day.
The Cowboys drafted Smith in the second round of April's NFL Draft after he played three seasons for the Fighting Irish. Smith won the Butkus Award - presented to the nation's top linebacker - as a high school senior at Bishop Luers in 2012 and again at Notre Dame in 2015.
Smith is set to be the fourth NFL player to throw out a first pitch at Parkview Field this season. Colts punter Pat McAfee attended the TinCaps' game on May 19, while Colts defensive tackle David Parry and safety Clayton Geathers were on hand for Colts Night on June 2.
Just like every other Monday TinCaps game, June 27 is a US Foods Family Feast Night featuring $1 hot dogs, pizza slices, popcorn, soft drinks, and Buffalo chicken stix. After the game, there will be Fireworks presented by Aunt Millie's. In addition to Smith, fan favorite Jake the Diamond Dog will also make an appearance.
Tickets are available at TinCapsTickets.com, by calling 260-482-6400, or visiting the Parkview Field Ticket Office.
