WALLEYE NOTES
Where We Started: The Toledo Walleye split the first two games of the Central Division Finals against the Fort Wayne Komets. The Walleye took a 5-4 victory in the series opener on Friday, before the Komets rebounded for a 6-1 win on Saturday to even the series. The Fish's streak of 27 consecutive playoff wins against Central Division opponents has been snapped. The Game 2 loss marked the first since 4/28/2022 in Game 5 of the Central Division Semifinals against the Cincinnati Cyclones, a 2-0 loss.
Big Time Blisser: Forward Trenton Bliss has heated up in the playoffs. Despite ending the regular season in a cold stretch, the Appleton, Wisconsin native has collected nine points (4G, 5A) in six games during the playoffs, scoring at least one point in five of the six games. The third-year forward posted 42 points (15G, 27A) for the Fish during the regular season.
Smoldering Smereck: Defenseman Jalen Smereck has racked up points in the early going of the playoffs. The blue-liner has picked up eight points (2G, 6A) while scoring in five of the six games. The Detroit, Michigan native had a strong regular season, posting 46 points (8G, 38A).
Mayhem on Madison: The Toledo Walleye continue to pack the Huntington Center, boasting a consecutive sellout streak of 74 games. The Walleye faithful rocked the Huntington Center all season long, setting a new single-season attendance record of 289,348 fans and an entire season sellout, the first in franchise history. The full-season sellout consisted of an average 8,037 fans per game at 108% capacity. The sellout streak spanning nearly two seasons has welcomed over 592,000 fans into the Huntington Center, averaging 8,013 fans per game and 108% capacity. The last non-sellout in the Glass City was December 3, 2023, against the Iowa Heartlanders.
Going on the Road: The Toledo Walleye head into the new week, needing to grab at least one win on the road for a chance to return to the Huntington Center. The Walleye meet the Fort Wayne Komets for Games 3, 4, and 5 this week with a potential Game 6 looming. Game 3 kicks off on Monday, with Games 4 and 5 coming Wednesday and Thursday. A potential Game 6 on Saturday would see the two teams return to the Huntington Center if necessary.
Walleye Player of the Week:
Trenton Bliss (2G, 1A)
Walleye Goaltender of the Week:
