Toledo Defeated in a Shootout 5-4 at Reading

(Reading, PA)- Walleye forward Derek Brochu scored twice and Toledo collected a point in 5-4 shootout loss at Reading. Toledo is 26-28-2-4 on the season and 12-14-2-1 away from home.

In the first period, Toledo would start the scoring at 5:55 when Kyle Rogers would blast a slap shot through Reading goaltender Mark Owuya. It was the 20th goal of the season for Rogers. The Walleye would jump in front 2-0 at 15:28 of the period when Derek Brochu scored his second goal of the season. The Royals would close the gap to one at 15:52 of the first when Kyle Neuber beat Alec Richards.

"We are in a battle for our playoff lives," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "Our effort was terrific all throughout this game. It's disappointing that we couldn't finish the game in the third period."

Toledo would collect the lone goal of the second period when Derek Brochu tipped a David Toews pass into the Reading net at 18:56. The second goal of game of the game from Derek was his third of the season.

Toledo would go in front 4-1 at 2:58 of the third period when Todd Griffith scored a power play goal. Bryan Main and Harrison Reed assisted on the 15th goal of the season for Griffith.

The Royals would score three times before the end of the regulation, including a disputed goal with a minute left in the third. Reading outscored Toledo 1-0 in the shootout. Walleye Notes: Walleye goaltender Alec Richards finished with 35 saves and has a record of 6-4-0-1 on the season. Toledo has gone to a shootout in four straight games (2-2).

The Toledo Walleye will return home on March 18th to host the Kalamazoo Wings. That is the third annual St. Cat Trick's Day Celebration presented by the Blarney Irish Pub. It is also "Faith and Family" night with a pregame concert by the band New Method.
