Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm (4-1-0) has yet to play an out-of-conference foe this season; and so far, so good. Wednesday morning, they defeated the Johnstown Chiefs (2-4-0) at Toledo Sports Arena on Third Shift Day by a 5-3 final score. All five of Toledo's games this year have been against division rivals, and with Wednesday's victory, the Storm take sole possession of first place in the North Division. Toledo is a perfect 4-0 home.
Toledo opened the scoring early, at the 0:53 mark when Richard Colwill beat Chiefs goaltender Jonathan Boutin to give the Storm a 1-0 lead; Andrew Martin notched the assist, his first of two on the night. Johnstown would tie it with 9:46 gone as Randy Rowe scored. Toledo regained the lead before the break, when Nick Parillo scored a power play goal at 14:14 of the first, putting the Storm up 2-1; Gerry Burke and Chris Blight recorded the assists.
The Storm would add to their cushion in the second, scoring a pair of goals in a 6-minute span. The first coming from Matt Zultek at 10:44 of the middle frame, Jamie Tardif and Dan Watson assisted. That power play goal was third consecutive, going back to Saturday, for the unit. Andrew Martin then picked up his second point, a goal at the 16:22 mark, putting the Storm up 4-1 after 40 minutes.
Johnstown scored a pair of goals in the third, pulling the Chiefs within one goal in the final minute. However, with an empty net to shoot at, Jamie Tardif put the Storm up for good, cashing in his second goal of the season to give Toledo a 5-3 victory.
Toledo netminder Logan Koopmans was quietly solid, making 32 saves to pick up his third win of the season.
The Storm will welcome two opponents in two nights to Toledo Sports Arena
this weekend. Friday night will be the first ever meeting between the
Florida Everblades and Toledo Storm at One Main Street. Saturday night, the
division-rival Cincinnati Cyclones will make their first regular season
appearance to Toledo; both games begin at 7:35pm. Great tickets are still
available by calling the Storm office at 419-691-0200 or online at the
