Toews Stars in Shootout Win Over Tulsa

TULSA, OK- The Wichita Thunder came away with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center on Friday night. Krister Toews saved 39 of 42 for the win, while Jason Duda and Scott Rozendal contributed three points each. Jason Tessier scored the game winner in the shootout, his second such goal this season.

Wichita grabbed a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period, thanks to goals from Rozdenal and Duda. Tulsa's Jeff Christian tied it at 2-2, scoring at 6:46 in the second and 1:50 in the third, both of which came on the power play.

Andrew Davis connected on his first goal of the season at 11:10 in the third on the power play to put Wichita back in front 3-2. Duda and Rozendal both assisted Davis's goal. With Tulsa's net empty, Christian completed a hat trick at 19:30 in the third to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Neither team could score in overtime, sending the Thunder to their second shootout of the season. Rozendal and Tessier scored in the shootout, while Toews stopped four of five, including Tulsa's last chance from Brett McConnachie. Wichita was outshot 42-39 in the contest.

Wichita returns home tomorrow night to take on the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Kansas Coliseum. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL.
