IceRays Stop RiverKings 5-1 in Texas

(Corpus Christi, TX) - The Mississippi RiverKings' two-game winning streak was stopped with their second straight loss to the IceRays in Corpus Christi on Friday, November 28th. The IceRays broke open a 1-1 game after two periods with a four-goal onslaught for a 5-1 victory at the American Bank Center.

Mississippi opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal from Darrell Stoddard (his third of the year), assisted by Louis Dumont and Stephen Margeson at 8:29 of the session for a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

Corpus Christi tied the game on an unassisted goal from Chris Richards, his ninth goal of the year, at 14:12 of the middle session for a 1-1 tie after two periods. The goal was the IceRays' first since Adam Powell's game-winning tally against the RiverKings last Saturday night, a span of over 120 minutes.

From there, it was all IceRays, who scored four times in the final period for the one-sided victory. Ryan Bennett scored two goals, including one on the power play in the four-goal outburst. Mike Zbriger and Nicholas Bachand also scored for Corpus Christi.

The IceRays outshot the RiverKings 30-29 for the game, including 18 shots on net in the final period. Kevin Beech took the loss (10-6-0) with a 25-save performance, while former Laredo teammate Dustin Traylen won for the second time this season with a 28-save performance.

The RiverKings scored once on the power play in eight chances, while Corpus Christi tallied twice in nine opportunities.

Mississippi remains in Corpus Christi for their final game of the season against the IceRays tomorrow night at 7:05 PM in the American Bank Center. Broadcast coverage with RiverKings' Media Coordinator Bob Bakken begins at 6:50 PM on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM.

The next home games for the RiverKings will be December 12th and 13th in a two-game set against the Texas Brahmas at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, beginning at 7:05 PM each night.
