Wilson Tobs News Release
WILSON, N.C. (July 11, 2011) - LHP Richard Hawkins held the Wilson Tobs (3-6, 18-19) to four hits Monday afternoon, in leading the Outer Banks Daredevils (4-6, 15-21) to a 5-0 victory in front of 1,376 at Fleming Stadium.
Hawkins (3-1) pitched all nine innings for the Daredevils to record the complete game shutout. He walked just one batter and recorded three strikeouts to get his second win of the season against Wilson. It was the fifth time this summer the Tobs have been shutout.
On offense, the Daredevils collected all their runs in two innings off Wilson starter Chase Bebout (1-5). Outer Banks put two on the board in the top of the second when Bebout walked the first two batters of the inning. After LF Thomas Zengel singled to load the bases with no one out, RF Mathew Fleishman brought the first run home by grounding into a 4-6 fielders choice. One out later, 2B Mike Levine brought home the second run of the inning with a single.
In the top of the fourth, the Daredevils completed the scoring for the game by sending three across the plate. Again it was back-to-back walks that got Bebout in trouble with one out in the frame. Following the two walks, a double by DH Alex Aurrichio and another single by Levine brought both runners home. Aurrichio would score the third run of the inning when he was brought home on a sacrifice bunt by CF Wayne Hawkins.
Bebout took the loss with a final line of six innings pitched, five runs (all earned) on six hits, five walks, and two strikeouts. RHP Dan Brown pitched a scoreless seventh, eighth, and ninth for Wilson, while only giving up two hits.
The Tobs will be at home again tomorrow night as they take on the Edenton Steamers at 7:05pm. On the hill for Wilson will be RHP Craig Goodman (2-1), making his sixth start of the summer. Tuesdays are "Michelob Ultra Tuesdays" at Fleming Stadium, with 16 ounce Michelob Ultra drafts available in the beer garden for just $2.00. For tickets call the Tobs box office at 252-291-TOBS.
