Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins snapped a three-game losing streak on Monday night, ravaging the Columbia Blowfish by the score of 12-2 on Military Monday, sponsored by Golden Corral. The Marlins batted around the lineup in the bottom of the seventh, scoring their final five runs to gain the ten-run lead.
All but two batters in the Marlins lineup crossed the plate for one of the team's twelve runs, and eight Morehead City hitters tallied fifteen hits in just the eight frames in which the Marlins were at the plate.
Centerfielder and leadoff batter Jake Luce put in another impressive night from the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three walks and four runs scored. Luce also snagged two stolen bases on the evening. The "ECU Two" also had solid performances, as Marlins third baseman Corey Thompson belted his first home run of the season: a three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to give his team a 7-2 lead; and slugger Chase McDonald nudged his season batting average back to .400, as he was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Marlins starting pitcher Chase Wellbrock remains undefeated after picking up his third win of the season. Wellbrock tossed 7.1 innings and allowed two runs to score off of nine hits while striking out eight and walking just one.
The Marlins will host the Blowfish on Tuesday as well. The official start time is set at 7:05 p.m., and Big Rock Stadium's gates will open at 6 o'clock. Tuesday evening's contest includes Two For Tuesday at the ballpark and the Marlins T-Shirt Giveaway. Then, on Wednesday, Morehead City will play an exhibition game with the Heroes of the Diamond, a team of service members within the United States Armed Forces.
