Copperheads out blast HiToms

ASHEBORO, N.C. - Asheboro scored six runs over their final two at bats as they evened the season series with the HiToms at four games apiece with a 11-4 win on Monday afternoon at McCrary Park.

Down by a run entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Asheboro (3-6) was able to turn the game around. The Copperheads loaded the bases with just one out against Mike Mayers (L, 3-3) and trouble followed as Hunter Ridge blooped a ball in front of the leftfielder Cole Sturgeon and on the play the ball rolled past the HiTom outfielder allowing all three runs to score and giving the Copperheads a 5-4 lead after five.

The HiToms (7-3) broke a two-all in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a Jacob Rogers two-run home run. With two men out, Brock Hebert singled to left and then stole second ahead of Jacob Rogers, who blast a one strike pitch over the right field wall for his fifth home run of the season and a 4-2 lead for the Tommies.

Asheboro claimed their first lead of the game in the second inning off Mayers as John Fidanza brought home both runs with a single back up the middle to give the Copperheads a 2-1 lead.

The score would remain the same until the fourth inning when the HiToms knotted the score with two outs. Stephen Carmon singled back up the box and later stole second ahead of James Harris who delivered his fourth RBI in three games as he doubled down the line in right to tie the game at two.

Asheboro added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning against Johnny Hoffman to claim a three-run lead. That advantage would grow in the last of the eighth as well when the Copperheads scored four runs off Matt Dill as they claimed an 10-4 on Monday afternoon at McCrary Park.

The Tommies are back in action on as they travel to Hooker Field for at 7:05 first pitch against the Martinsville Mustangs. They return to Finch Field on Wednesday night at 7:00 as they entertain the Martinsville Mustangs.
