Forest City Owls News Release
FOREST CITY, N.C. - Early scoring and a strong performance by starting pitcher Nick Lomascolo propelled the Forest City Owls to a 3-1 victory over the Martinsville Mustangs on Monday night at McNair Field. The Owls improve to 6-3 in the second half and 22-14 overall, while the Mustangs drop to 4-4 in the second half and 17-17 on the season.
Lomascolo (Catawba) tossed seven innings of one-run ball, allowing six hits, striking out nine batters and issuing one walk. He earned his team-leading fourth victory of the season. Nicholas LaRoy (Washington State) pitched well in his first career CPL start, allowing just two runs on three hits and recording six strikeouts. Regardless, he was smacked with his second loss of the summer.
Forest City jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. After leading off the frame with a double, Buddy Sosnoskie (Francis Marion) scored on a wild pitch while Dusty Quattlebaum (Gardner-Webb) was at bat. Quattlebaum walked and later scored on a Danny Canela (N.C. State) RBI double.
The Owls took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning before the Mustangs managed to pull closer. Ian Harvey (Patrick Henry CC) crushed a solo home run over the center field wall to slice the Owls' lead in half. Forest City would get that run back in the bottom of the inning when Cameron Conner (N.C. State) singled up the middle, scoring Sosnoskie.
Forest City called on Ryan Tezak (West Virginia) and Adam Izokovic (Gardner-Webb) to bottle up the Mustangs in the final two innings. They each pitched a scoreless inning and Izokovic came away with his eighth save of the season.
Sosnoskie finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Harvey went 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Forest City's Konstantine Diamaduros (Wofford) singled in the fifth inning, recording his 157th career hit and putting him just one hit behind former Owls teammate Will Skinner for the CPL's all-time career hits record.
The Owls will visit the Gastonia Grizzlies tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Sims Legion Park.
