WILSON, N.C. (July 28, 2011)- The Peninsula Pilots had timely hitting and took advantage of Tobs mistakes to get by the Tobs 5-4 on Thursday Night in Wilson.

The Tobs got off to an early three to nothing lead, when in the bottom of the third inning Wilson had three hits highlighted by a Joe Costigan 2 run double. Wilson gave their starting pitcher Tyler King a 3 run cushion after three complete innings.

In the top of the forth inning the Pilots gained a run back when Tristan Moore was hit by a pitch as the lead off hitter. He was then doubled to third and came around to score on the Phil Ruzbarsky base hit. Wilson led after four innings 3-1.

The Pilots tied the score in the fifth. A leadoff triple and then a wild pitch saw the Tobs lead shrink to one run. Ivan Hartle was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second base on sacrifice bunt, and to third on a fly ball to center field. Hartle scampered home on the 2nd wild pitch of the inning this one by Lance Honeycutt who relieved King. The score was even at three.

The score remained tied until the seventh inning when the bottom of the lineup burned the Tobs again. Zac MacAneney who singled and then moved to second on a pass ball. Hartle got an infield single putting runners on the corners with nobody out. Jimmy Rider quickly gave the Pilots the lead with a base hit to left field. The score was 4-3 and there was runners on first and third. Hartle later scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Huck. The score was Peninsula 5 and Wilson 3 after seven full innings.

The Tobs kept the score right where it was going to the bottom of the ninth. Angelo LaBruna and Brian Holberton reached base with one out. This meant that the winning run was at the plate in the person of Ryan Mathews. Mathews who leads the Coastal Plain League in homeruns could win the game with one swing of the bat. Patrick Scoggin was on to pitch the bottom half of the ninth for the Pilots. Mathews hit a fly ball to deep center field but it was just a sacrifice fly as LaBruna scored from third. The stage was wet once again for Costigan. Costigan could also win the game with one swing. Scoggin caught the Tobs clean up hitter off guard with a change up that Costigan ended up swinging through with two strikes on him. The game was over and the final was Peninsula 5 and Wilson 4. This loss makes 5 losses in a row for Wilson, which is their second longest losing skid of the year.

The winning pitcher was Jason Farley who improved to (1-1). Lance Honeycutt was saddled with the loss. His record now falls to (1-4). Patrick Scoggin earned his first save of the season in dramatic fashion. The time of the game was three hours and four minutes and one thousand six hundred and sixty-six were in attendance for the last Thirsty Thursday at Fleming Stadium for the season.

The Tobs will take their talents to Edenton, North Carolina on Friday July 29, 2011 to take on their archrival in the Edenton Steamers. The game time is scheduled for 7pm and no pitching mach up has been announced.
