Columbia's Smith Breaks CPL Single-Season Total Bases Record

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced tonight that Columbia Blowfish All-Star outfielder Zach Smith (Erskine College) broke the league's single-season total bases record during a 6-5 10-inning win for the Blowfish over the Florence RedWolves Thursday night.

Smith, who headed into tonight's game with 121 total bases - tied with Jason Dubois (Rocky Mount, 1998) and Kevin Mahoney (Forest City, 2008) for the league high. That is until tonight when Smith went 1-for-5 with an RBI, giving him one total base on the night and 122 on the 2011 season overall.

This season, Smith has been a big contributor for Columbia's offense. Currently he is batting a team-best .371 with 75 hits, including 14 doubles and 11 home runs. He has driven in 45 RBIs and scored another 33 runs himself. And if that wasn't enough, Smith's tacked on a .604 slugging percentage, a .393 on-base percentage, seven walks, and seven stolen bases.
