High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release
MARTINSVILLE, V.A. - The HiToms picked up their second consecutive road win on Thursday night as they moved past the Martinsville Mustangs 4-3 at Hooker Field to expand their lead in the West division.
The HiToms (15-8) got on the board first as they put up a two spot in the second inning off Ryan Crosby (L 1-2). With runners at first and third, Garrett Koster grounded to second base but legged out the back end of the double play to drive home a run. Later in the frame, Brock Hebert collected his second hit of the night when he doubled down the line in left to make it 2-0 Tommies after two.
Martinsville (11-13) pulled even in the third inning on an RBI triple from AJ Nunziato and a Justin Sizemore sacrifice fly to make it two all after three.
The Tommies regained the lead in the fourth after a one out single by Koster and two hitters later, DeSeaun Anderson drove home his first run as a HiTom with a single through the right side to make it 3-2 HiToms after four.
That lead would hold up as Matt Dillon (W 4-2) kept Martinsville off balance all night going 5 2/3 innings and allowing just the two runs on three hits. However, the Mustangs would threaten in the sixth inning as they put a runner at second with two outs, but the Tommies called on CPL All-Star JJ Jankowski who came in and threw three pitches for an inning ending strikeout.
HiToms were able to add an insurance run in the eighth inning. With two outs, Jacob Fisher singled to centerfield to drive Patrick Koontz home from third and make it 4-2 Tommies after eight.
Martinsville had no answer for Jankowski as he worked 3 1/3 of perfect baseball fanning five to earn his first save of the season and help the HiToms claim a 4-2 victory.
The Tommies make their return to Finch Field on tomorrow night when they welcome the Martinsville Mustangs to town for at 7:00 first pitch.
