Wilson Tobs News Release

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs came from four runs back and had to stave off a furious comeback from the Morehead City Marlins as Wilson earned a 7-6 victory in the penultimate game of the 2012 season at Big Rock Stadium as the Tobacconists ended an 11-game winning streak for the Marlins.

Wilson (21-34, 12-15) hit the seventh inning deadlocked in a four all tie and were able to bring home a couple of runs to take their first lead of the game. A.J. Goetz (L, 1-1) came in to relieve for the Marlins and issued a pair of walks to begin the stanza as Aaron Rea and Trey Whaley drew walks to begin things. Joe Costigan followed the walks with a triple to the gap in centerfield to give the Tobs a 6-4 lead.

However, the Tobacconists were not done scoring as Collins Cuthrell followed one hitter later and laced a double off the top of the left field wall to score Costigan and give the Tobs a three-run, 7-4 lead.

After trailing by four runs, the Tobs came roaring back to knot the score at four when Cambric Moye lofted a fly ball to left field allowing Cuthrell to tag from third base and score just ahead of the throw from Sal Annunziata.

Morehead City (25-30, 15-13) built a four run lead against Tyler Bolton (W, 2-6) with a pair of runs in both the second and third inning. However, the right-hander out of East Carolina shut down the Marlins over his final three innings which allowed the Tobs to rally for victory.

The Marlins, however tried to come back against Chris Armstrong as Morehead City scored a pair of runs on a double from Dalton Knight along with a Geoff DeGroot single to make it 7-6, Tobs.

However, that would be as close as they would get as John Eric Haynes (S, 2 ) came in to shut the door of the Marlins and their 11-game winning streak with a 7-6 victory for the Tobs.

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
