Morehead City Marlins News Release

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs (21-34 overall, 12-15 second half) defeated the Morehead City Marlins (25-30 overall, 15-13 second half) by a score of 7-6 to snap an 11-game winning streak in the regular season finale Thursday night at Big Rock Stadium.

The Marlins were eliminated from playoff contention when the Martinsville Mustangs wrapped up a 4-2 win over the Gastonia Grizzlies just moments after the Marlins fell to the Tobs. The Martinsville win propelled them to the second half West Division title which automatically clinched a playoff spot.

The Marlins struck first when they scored two runs in the second inning and then plated two more in the third inning for a 4-0 lead. However, Wilson plated two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game up at 4.

Then in the top of the seventh inning, Wilson plated three runs for a 7-4 lead. Morehead City trimmed the lead to 7-6 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth but went scoreless in the ninth to fall.

Tyler Bolton (2-6) picked up the win with six innings of work and he allowed four runs. The loss went to AJ Goetz (1-1) who surrendered three runs in his only inning. John Eric Haynes picked up save number two on the year with a 1-2-3 ninth frame.

Notes: Morehead City missed the playoffs for the second straight season... The 11-game winning streak was the longest in franchise history and longest in the CPL this season... Morehead City finished with the eighth-best record in the league but missed the playoffs.
