Lexington County Blowfish News Release
The Wilson Tobs batted around in the first inning and scored six runs to spoil Blake Forslund's debut en route to a 14-7 victory over the Columbia Blowfish. The loss is the fourth straight for the Blowfish, who have lost seven of their last eight games.
The first five Tobs (5-8) batters reached base before Forslund (0-1) recorded an out. Three of the hits were well placed bunt singles. The 3-4-5 hitters for the Tobs went a combined 7 for 15, including two home runs with six runs scored and five RBI. The long ball was in effect for both teams tonight as both teams went deep twice.
Tyler Jackson got the Blowfish (4-9) on the board in the third with a solo home run to lead off the inning. Chase Vergason added a two-run shot in the sixth.
Defense played a factor for the Blowfish again as they committed three errors and allowed an unearned run for the eleventh time in 13 games. The Blowfish entered tonight with the lowest fielding percentage in the Coastal Plain League.
Demontez Jones extended his hitting streak to six games with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Zach Smith went two for five to keep his on-base streak alive; he has reached base safely in every game this season.
The Tobs entered the game with the lowest batting average in the league, but were still able to plate 14 runs against the pitching staff with the highest ERA.
The Blowfish drop the first of five home games this week. They return to action Tuesday night, when the Fayetteville SwampDogs come to town. The Tobs have now won four straight and are surging through the standings. They are off on Tuesday before traveling to Outer Banks on Wednesday.
