Trenton Titans News Release
Trenton had another solid week, winning two of three to start a five-game home stand, while picking up a valuable four points in a valiant final push towards a post-season berth. A tough pair faces the Titans this week to close out the five games, before they finish the season with five of the next seven on the road.
Thursday March 7: Elmira - 2, TRENTON - 4
Trenton started the home stand with a solid start-to-finish win over its Atlantic Division foe.
The Jackals took a 1-0 lead after a wide open first, but the titans scored four unanswered over the next two frames to put the game away. Blake Kessel continued his hot play since returning from Adirondack, by scoring his seventh of the season just 31 seconds into the second. Brian Haczyk (13) added a power play goal six minutes later to give Trenton the lead for good.
Jesse Todd (3) got the eventual game-winner early in the third, with Kessel adding insurance seven minutes in. A late Jackals goal did little to dampen the mood or take away the second ECHL win of the season for Cal Heeter (24 saves).
Friday March 8: WHEELING - 5, Trenton - 2
Heeter (19 saves) was the unfortunate recipient of three deflected goals that proved to be the Titans undoing.
The Titans weren't outplayed during the first 40 minutes, but a stagnant offense that produced just 12 shots didn't help their cause. Add to that two of the deflected goals - one off a Titan and one off the chest of a Nailer - and the Titans were down 2-0 through two.
The offense finally came to life in the third thanks to the power play. Captain Andy Bohmabch - recently back from his call up to Abbotsford (AHL) - scored his 21st (11th PPG) at the 1:23 mark, while Shane Harper (down from Adirondack with Heeter) added his third in the ECHL three minutes later to tie the score.
However the Nailers were able to withstand the pressure, then reversed it with a breakaway goal at 11:04 for the game-winner. Another deflected goal 23 seconds later and an empty-netter in the final minutes provided the final scoring.
Sunday March 10: Orlando - 1, TRENTON - 6
Needing a win to sweep the season series with a Solar Bears squad tied in the standings with them, the Titans started fast and strong to get the win.
The fun started just 19 seconds in when Mike Ullrich - in just his third game back from injury - scored his 10th of the year for a fast 1-0 start. Haczyk (14) and Andrew Johnston (2) scored inside the next five minutes as Trenton took a 3-0 after outshooting Orlando 17-6 in the first.
Another 17-6 barrage helped give the Titans a 5-0 lead after two. Haczyk (15) and Ullrich (11) - both of whom came within inches of hat tricks on the night - each scored to end the competitive portion of the contest.
All that remained was to try and get Brooks Ostergard (21 saves) his first career shutout. A perfect pass to the low slot at 4:19 of the third ended that drama, but Ostergard still picked up his third win in as many games (all starts) since coming to Trenton February 22.
Defenseman Eric Baier's third of the year finished the scoring for the night.

Relief Effort In The Wake Of Hurricane Sandy: As time passes it is easy to forget the people who were - and continue to be - effected in the aftermath of Sandy. The Titans are grateful to the members of Titans Nation who provided - and continue to offer - relief supplies for those in need.
The Titans will continue the help their neighbors as long as it's needed and will keep delivering donations as they come in. Trenton would like to thank its friends at Justin's Rentals in Trenton, for supplying the transportation needed to deliver those donations.
