March 14, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

The Road Warriors squared off with their in-state rivals, the South Carolina Stingrays, in a three game set this past weekend. Without leading scorer Marc-Olivier Vallerand, the Road Warriors dropped games in regulation on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, Greenville was able to overcome a two goal deficit, but eventually fell in the shootout by a final score of 3-2.

The Road Warriors were able to bounce back last night. In a crucial matchup against the seventh seed Toledo Walleye, the Road Warriors came away with the 4-1 win.

With eight games left in the season Greenville now holds the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. The race in the Eastern Conference remains tight, as only six points separate the third through eighth place teams. If the season were to end today, Greenville would square off against the Reading Royals in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The Road Warriors will continue their tour of the North Divsion this weekend with games at Evansville, Fort Wayne and Kalamazoo. They then travel south for two games against divison rival, the Orlando Solar Bears before returning home for two games and then finishing off the regular season in Gwinnett.

About the Kelly Cup Playoffs

In the ECHL only the top eight teams advance to the playoffs. The first, second and third playoff spots are given to the winners of each division. They would play the eighth, seven and sixth seed respectively. The fourth and fifth seeds would play against each other as well. Home ice advantage will be given to the first four seed. Home ice advantage means that team will play four games at their arena and three games in the opposing team's arena. Teams will not reseed after the first round of play much like the bracket style of NCAA basketball.
