Gladiators Post 5-4 Win over Orlando

The Gwinnett Gladiators (38-25-2-1) got two goals from Justin Bowers and 22 saves from Louis Domingue to knock off the Orlando Solar Bears (26-31-3-3) 5-4 on Thursday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Orlando opened the scoring on the power play at 10:50 of the first period. Scott Tanski found the back of the net for the Solar Bears for the marker. Alain Goulet and Ryan Blair collected the assists on the goal.

Doug Jones answered for Gwinnett with 2:46 left in the first period as he slipped into the slot and ripped a shot over the shoulder of the Solar Bear's netminder Patrick Killeen. Evan Bloodoff and Sacha Guimond notched the assists on Jones' 19th goal of the season for Gwinnett.

The two teams combined for five goals in the second period but Orlando took a 4-3 lead after two period.

Justin Bowers scored two goals early in the period to put Gwinnett up 3-1 with his first just 2:33 into the second. Bowers took a centering feed from Alex Belzile and beat Killeen for his 14th goal of the season.

Bowers' second of the game came at 12:04 of the second as he collected a loose puck and threw it at the net where it slipped off the netminder and into the back of the net for his 15th marker of the season. Corey Fienhage and Belzile notched the assists on the goal.

Orlando stormed back with the next three goals to take the lead. The first came just 42 seconds after Bowers' second goal of the game off the stick of Ryan Berard. Justin Cohen and Michael Lysyj had the assists.

Dale Mahovsky tied the game at one at 14:43 of the second period. Mahovsky found a rebound in the slot and beat Domingue for the goal. Goulet had his second assist of the game while Tanski also collected a helper.

Michael Wilson regained the lead for the Solar Bears with just 16 seconds left in the second period. Wilson finished an odd man rush with Michael Neil and Corbin Baldwin for the goal.

Yuri Bouharevich tied the game at four at with his third goal of the season. Bouharevich outworked the Solar Bears defenseman before he ripped the puck off the cross bar and past Killeen for the goal. Joey Haddad had an assist on the goal at 11:30 of the third period.

Andy Brandt notched the game winning goal with just 3:24 left in the third period for the Gladiators. Brandt found a loose puck along the goal line, pulled Killeen out of his net before he buried the goal to give the Gladiators the 5-4 lead. Scott Arnold and Bouharevich had the assists on the game winning goal for Gwinnett.

Gwinnett battles Orlando again on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
