Titans Week in Review

March 19, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

Trenton finished up a five-game home stand with one of its shortest weeks of the season. The Titans finished the stand 3-2, thanks in large part by ending a two-plus year losing streak

Friday March 15: Cincinnati - 1, TRENTON - 2 (1-0 SO)

November 5, 2010. That was the last time the Titans beat the North Division leading Cyclones, home or away. That game ended in OT, 5-4. This one wasn't as high-scoring, but it would prove more challenging and even more exciting.

Michael Houser (36 saves) and the Titans' Cal Heeter (35 saves) found themselves in a classic goalie's duel, with each making one huge save after another - especially Heeter.

Bryan Haczyk got Trenton on the board first thanks to the power play, with his 16th of the year late in the first. Jeremy Tucker tied it up midway through the second thanks to the Cyclones' PP unit. That's how it would stay all the way into the shootout.

Andy Bohmbach notched the only shootout goal on a nice backhand-forhand move that beat Houser over his right shoulder in Round Two. Mathieu Aubin had Cincinnati's best chance in Round Four, but his wrister rand off the crossbar and bounced harmlessly away. Heeter would stop David Pacan in the final round to seal the win.

Sunday March 7: ELMIRA - 6, Trenton - 3

Sunday's contest with their Atlantic Division foe would prove to be a lot more offensive and much more chippy than Friday's game, as both teams fought to be in the playoff mix.

Andrew Johnston (3) would get Trenton on the board first at 11:11 of the opening frame. However the Jackals finish the period on top after a pair of goals - including a short-hander - by Andrew Rowe.

Shane Harper scored for Trenton just 10 ticks into the

second period, tying the game at 2-2. After an Elmira goal, Stephen Schultz continued his outstanding power play work with his 17th PPG (26th overall) late in the period tie the game at 3-3.

Unfortunately that's all they would get past Maxime Clermont (36 saves), despite some high quality chances. Elmira would score twice, then add a third into an empty net to finish their victory. Heeter suffered the loss despite a 27-save effort.

The (Re)View From Atop Mount Olympus

Relief Effort In The Wake Of Hurricane Sandy: As time passes it is easy to forget the people who were - and continue to be - effected in the aftermath of Sandy. The Titans are grateful to the members of Titans Nation who provided - and continue to offer - relief supplies for those in need.

For the Titans final home game on Fan Appreciation Night, Saturday March 23, the Titans will hold a jersey auction, with proceeds helping the ongoing Sandy relief effort

The Titans will continue the help their neighbors as long as it's needed and will keep delivering donations as they come in. Trenton would like to thank its friends at Justin's Rentals in Trenton, for supplying the transportation needed to deliver those donations. For information on how you can help, please call the Titans' Offices at 609-341-1100.

Jacob Appleseed: Jacob Cepis continues to lead the Titans in assists with 40 - 13 more than the next highest player. He also tops the Titans with 58 points.

Movin On Up: With seven games left, Trenton continues to improve on last year's record. It's 27 wins are six better than last year, while its 62 points are 10 better.

Better Giving Extra Effort: The Titans six OTW are their best since prior to 2006-07, while their 3-4 record in Shootouts is well ahead of last season's 0-6 mark.

A New York "Save" Of Mind...In Trenton: In his first ECHL Shootout appearance, Heeter was perfect in stopping all five Elmira chances to get the win. Scott Wedgewood - in his first ever pro Shootout - was also a perfect 5-for-5 against Elmira. Both games were at home.

A Power-Ful Force: Trenton is 4th in the league on its power play (20.8) and 2nd in stopping everyone else's PP chances, doing so at an 85.1 success rate.
