Trenton Titans News Release

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans, members of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers, have announced several roster moves. First, the Flyers have assigned defenseman Blake Kessel to Trenton (ECHL) from the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL). In separate transactions, forward J.S. Berube has been recalled to Albany (AHL) by the New Jersey Devils (NHL), Toledo forward Doug Clarkson has been traded to Trenton for future considerations and defenseman Marvin Degon has signed a contract with the Titans.

Kessel played 31 games with Trenton before being called back to Adirondack on January 3. Along with helping run point on the power play, he was a solid blue-liner who scored 15 points (4 G, 11 A), including two power play goals for the Titans.

At 6-5 and 240 pounds, Clarkson is a presence on the ice at all times. After a 34-point season last year at Nipissing University (OUAA) the rookie had four goals and four assists in 25 games with Toledo. He is also the younger brother of Devils' forward David Clarkson.

Degon (5-11, 190) brings a wealth of experience to the blue line. He has seen time in the ECHL (Reading, 2011-12) and AHL (Hartford 2005-07, Hamilton 07-08, Providence 11-12), as well as leagues in Germany (DEL) and Austria. He comes to the Titans from Italy, where he had 15 points and 42 PIM for Milan this season.

Berube returns to Albany after appearing with Trenton for a third consecutive season. This year the 6-4, 210 pound forward from Matane, PQ, Canada, played in 10 games for the Titans, recording three goals, five assists and 10 PIM. He was a seventh round pick (205 overall) of the Devils in the 2008 NHL Draft.

The Trenton Titans returned in the 2011-12 hockey season after a five year hiatus and boasted a 26.1% increase in attendance over the previous year, the largest of any team in the (then) 20-team ECHL.
