Tips Sweep Road Trip to Victoria

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Everett Silvertips grabbed both legs of a weekend doubleheader at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, taking a 4-1 win on Friday and a 2-1 win Saturday.

Carter Bear opened the scoring Friday night with his first of the year in his season debut, banking a rebound in on the powerplay 2:57 into the first period. Shea Busch fielded a backdoor feed from Matias Vanhanen to net another for the Silvertips over the right shoulder of Royals netminder Ethan Eskit at 4:20. Carter Bear fed Zackary Shantz for a shot from the slot that went bar down to put the Silvertips up 3-0 at 9:42. Julius Miettinen found Shea Busch crashing the crease for a tap-in goal and his second of the night 19:21 into the first period to add to the Silvertips lead.

Roan Woodward netted the Royals' lone goal 17:42 into the final period.

Raiden LeGall fended off 17 of 18 in the win, while Ethan Eskit went 29 for 33 on Everett's shots on goal.

Saturday's first period finished scoreless, but the Silvertips broke through first as Julius Miettinen potted a powerplay goal from Jaxsin Vaughan and Shea Busch 4:02 into the second period.

The Royals found the equalizer 16:51 into the third period as Ashton Brown converted a rebound off a shot from Nolan Stewart atop the right circle.

Tarin Smith played hero for Everett in overtime as he drove up the zone and slipped a backhander between the legs of Eskit to seal the 2-1 victory for the Silvertips.

LeGall denied 32 of 33 shots on goal for the Silvertips Saturday night, while Eskit saved 36 of 38.
